Argentinian defender Marcos Angeleri is wanted by Sunderland, according to his agent.
The 27-year-old has been left out of Argentina's World Cup squad due to injury, but was reportedly recently watched by Black Cats number two Eric Black for club side Estudiantes
Reports claim the three-times capped right-back could join the Wearsiders in a £2million deal.
"In the next few days I'll be meeting with Estudiantes' officials to let them know about Sunderland's proposal," said agent Miguel Pires.
"If they agree to transfer the player for the amount that's being offer I'll travel to England to meet with Sunderland's board members."
Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is looking for a new right-back after refusing to meet Tottenham's £8million valuation of Alan Hutton.
