da supremo: Rangers’ season may end in disappointment on the pitch but it appears that there could be plenty of optimism moving forward, with the Daily Record reporting that a potential takeover deal is in the works.
What’s been said?
da luck: The Glasgow outfit have reportedly been in talks with businessman Stuart Gibson over the last few months, with the would-be investor in attendance to watch Scottish League Cup matches against Hearts and Celtic despite being based in Japan.
It is thought that discussions have been held which will lead to a £20m investment from Gibson to help Rangers out in the short to mid-term future, before he takes over full control from Dave King.
A close source said, as reported by the Daily Record:
“Stuart is extremely excited about this opportunity because he’s been a massive Rangers supporter his whole life.
“He met George Taylor as part of a business deal and it was during those discussions that the idea was planted. The talks became very serious from that moment and now it looks as if the deal could be announced very shortly.”
Such an update indicates that the takeover process is in fact in full swing and it could just be a matter of time before the club exchanges hands, and a new dawn unfolds for Rangers.
Not much is know about Gibson in the UK but he has made a success of things in East Asia. His real estate company, ESR, for example, has assets under its management worth more than £1.5 billion.
While his actual net worth is unknown, it is likely that he is well placed to take over running of the club, and that could lead to an exciting future.
Planning ahead
The first priority for the takeover should be to ensure continuity at the club.
Since Steven Gerrard took over there has been steady progression despite the lack of silverware and the former Liverpool player must be persuaded to continue in the Ibrox dugout, amid his own suggestion that he was considering his future at the club.

Guaranteeing his stay prevents the need for another rebuild. The players and staff know his methods and standards now and if Rangers can just add a bit more quality – which the possible extra finances could supply – then they will be well-placed to knock Celtic off their perch.
Now is the ideal to complete a change in hands at the top, too, as there is no football to distract the squad or the management, but there is still plenty of time remaining to plan for next season.
