da lvbet: Sheffield Wednesday’s Fernando Forestieri has struggled for game time under manager Garry Monk since returning from a six-match suspension, but his teammate’s latest comments could paint a much broader picture on why.
What’s he said?
The Owls have slumped in recent weeks as it is now five games without a victory after they were held by Birmingham City on Wednesday evening.
Misfortune in front of goal seems to be the recurring theme at Hillsborough, which has led to fans calling for Forestieri to be given an opportunity.

The 29-year-old very much changed the outlook of the game after his introduction just over 30 minutes from time, but following the match, Barry Bannan has given a damning verdict on why he hasn’t been more involved.
He said:
“We train day-in, day-out and you’ve got to work hard in training to get into the team.“It’s up to Fernando. We know the quality that he’s got, but if you’re not working hard in training and not working hard on the pitch, you’re not going to play.“So he needs to brush up on that side of things.“We all know how good a player he is, it’s just about getting that other side and getting him working hard for the team. Then, no doubt, he’ll be one of the first names on the team sheet.”
Speaks volumes
Bannan has played alongside Forestieri for the best part of four years now, so he is certainly well placed to make such accusations.
It only goes to show that there is plenty to this story that fans cannot see as the midfielder’s comments suggest that his attitude in training hasn’t been at the standard one would expect.
Therefore, this would justify Monk’s recent team selections as Forestieri is yet to start a match under the 40-year-old since he took over in September.
The Italian forward will need to buck up his ideas quickly as these latest remarks speak volumes on his character.
Monk will not want to carry passengers past January, so it’s unlikely that we’ve heard the last of this saga.
