da bet7: Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is willing to start the season without a new right-back, according to football.london.
What’s the word?
da pixbet: The North London outfit are yet to bring in any new signings, but they have lost a first-team star in the form of Kyle Walker.
The England international joined Manchester City after being left out of some key games last season.
Kieran Trippier has now emerged as his direct replacement after penning a new long-term deal at the Premier League outfit.
Despite Walker leaving, football.london claims that Pochettino is open to beginning the new season with 20-year-old Kyle Walker-Peters on the bench.
The youngster has not yet made a competitive senior appearance for Tottenham and his only experience in the setup so far is being named as a substitute for one top-flight match and an FA Cup game.
The publication claims that Pochettino will move for a right-back if a suitable deal comes about, but the Argentine is being cautious.
Is Pochettino making the right call?
It is difficult to argue with the 45-year-old considering how he has transformed Spurs into title contenders with a young team.
The club followed up their third-place finish in the 2015-16 campaign by ending last season as runners-up to champions Chelsea.
The team also had the best attacking and defensive records out of the entire division, so it is clear that Pochettino was right to trust in his young stars.
However, all of his competitors have strengthened and he is yet to bring in a new face.
Trippier put in some impressive displays during the latter stages of the season, but it is a big ask for him to show that on a consistent level straight away.
Having Walker-Peters as Spurs’ only option in the event of an injury to Trippier is dangerous considering that he has little experience in the senior setup.
It is understandable that Pochettino wants to stick with his young guns, but spending some cash on a solid right-back would make life more comfortable.
