da pinnacle: Everton fans have been enjoying a busy transfer window, welcoming seven new players to the club, and now they are celebrating the contract renewal of an old favourite.
da fezbet: Club captain Phil Jagielka has signed a one-year extension, which means that he is now tied to the club until 2019.
The 34-year-old has become very much part of the fabric at Goodison Park having joined the Toffees a decade ago from Sheffield United.
In that time, the centre-back has played in well over 300 games and took the captaincy from Phil Neville in 2013.
Jagielka’s association with Everton stretches back further than 10 years as he also spent a period of time at the club’s academy.
Last season, the defender started 25 Premier League games and came off the bench in a further two.
His playing time this season could be limited due to the recent arrival of Michael Keane from Burnley.
It is likely that Jagielka will have to fight Ashley Williams for a place in Ronald Koeman’s back line.
The England international’s place in the team remains unclear, but fans are very happy to see him stay.
