da bet nacional: According to reports in The Sun, Chelsea are targeting a £22m move for FC Porto left-back Alex Telles because they are concerned that Paris Saint-Germain will hijack their own deal for Juventus’ Alex Sandro.
What’s the word, then?
da brdice: Well, the Premier League champions are braced to be disappointed in their bid to sign the Brazilian from the Serie A giants after PSG launched a last-gasp bid for the 26-year-old, according to The Sun.
The Blues have already agreed a £60m deal to bring Alex Sandro to England, but the Ligue 1 are ready to outbid them in order to win the race to sign the left-sided defender.
If that proves to be the case, then Antonio Conte has already sounded out Telles as a potential alternative according to The Sun, with a view to making a £22m bid for the 24-year-old who is said to be keen on a move to the Premier League.
How did Alex Telles do last season?
He was a regular in the Porto side and he certainly made a big impression in his 45 appearances in all competitions, scoring one and providing a further 10 assists.
Having established himself as the club’s first-choice left-back, it is no surprise that he is starting to attract admiring glances from the likes of Chelsea.
Would he be a good signing for Chelsea?
He certainly would be.
While he is more than capable of being a threat from an attacking point of view – the 24-year-old created 62 chances in 32 Liga Nos appearances last term – while he is also impressive from a defensive point of view.
The left-back made 84 interceptions and 59 clearances while he also won an impressive 46 headed duels to show his strength in the air.
Would he be better than Alex Sandro?
While the Juventus star has been hugely impressive, Chelsea may feel that they could get a better deal if they sign Alex Telles instead.
Being two years younger and potentially £38m cheaper, it could be the sensible decision to sign the 24-year-old instead of him being an alternative.
What’s the verdict, then?
Well, there is no doubt that Alex Telles has shown that he is a talented player, and he would certainly be a strong – and cheaper alternative – than getting Alex Sandro from Juventus if PSG are to win the race for the 26-year-old.
