da bet7k: As you’re probably already aware, Mark Warburton is no longer Rangers manager – although there is still some confusion over whether he, David Weir and Frank McParland actually resigned. Chairman David King’s certainly had his say.
da 888casino: Nonetheless, that leaves the Glasgow outfit in a rather precarious position. Having picked up just two wins in their last six games, losing three, Rangers now host Scottish Championship outfit Greenock Morton – who, in contrast, have won five of their last six – in the Fifth Round of the Scottish Cup tomorrow.
Although the majority of Rangers fans aren’t exactly disappointed to see Warburton leave, his departure leaves ‘banana-skin’ painted all over tomorrow’s 3pm kickoff at Ibrox. Here’s two more reasons The ‘Gers could slip up…
Greenock Morton already have two Premiership scalps this season
The Ton have already found themselves in a national semi-final this season, enjoying a Hampden date with Aberdeen in the Scottish League Cup. Although they were brushed a side by the Dons, they got there thanks to wins over Hamilton and Kilmarnock, two sides that have picked up results against Rangers already this season.
What’s more, they did it away from home on both occasions, showing they have no qualms whatsoever about travelling away to top-flight opposition.
That cup run will give them plenty of belief heading into Sunday’s match, knowing that on their day they produce performances of the calibre required to be competitive in the Scottish Premiership.
Greenock Morton were one of only two sides to take points at Ibrox last season
While they faltered away from home on numerous occasions under Warburton, Rangers are a formidable outfit at home. There’s something about the expansive nature of the Ibrox pitch and the famous backing they receive from supporters that lights a fire in any Rangers side.
However, Greenock Morton are one of the few teams in Scottish football over the last 20 months to take anything away from the famous stadium.
On their march to the Scottish Championship title last season, only two sides managed to pick up points at Ibrox and one of them was Jim Duffy’s Greenock Morton.
Rangers are arguably a more formidable outfit now but a resilient performance allowed Greenock Morton to pick up a massive point, equalising then taking the lead before a Martin Waghorn goal rescued a draw.
If they can produce a similar performance on Sunday then anything is possible. A draw would be a great result for Duffy’s side, who would then fancy taking Rangers on at Cappielow. The Gers’ struggles away from home have a been a blight on their season so far.
