da dobrowin: Dominic Calvert-Lewin spoke about Duncan Ferguson after scoring a brace in Everton’s 3-1 win over Chelsea, as reported on the club’s official channels.
What did he say?
The 22-year-old was superb for the Toffees on Saturday, as in addition to scoring the two goals, he also completed one key pass and won 11 aerial duels throughout the game.
There was the feeling that playing for Ferguson was part of the reason that he was able to kick on and do so well, considering he had notched three goals in the rest of his Premier League games this season.
That was backed up by his celebrations, then further evidence was given in the form of his comments after the game: “[Personally] it was about repaying the work Duncan has done with me over the past three years.
“I have worked closely with Duncan, we have a good relationship and that’s why I ran to him when I scored my second goal. I know how much it means to him and how much he loves the club.”
Making an impact
It seems as though Ferguson has done a lot for Calvert-Lewin, while he has also shown a lot of belief in the young striker.
Did he play for Everton? Simple question but a lot tougher than you think…
This was best shown in May, when Ferguson was quoted by Sky Sports as saying: “I think he’s got a bit of everything, he ticks all the boxes for me.
“He can run in behind, he can cover the physicality side of it, he can come short, he’s great in the air, his touch is improving.
“His stats to goals ratio is very very good, we think we can improve and we’re looking forward to Dominic kicking on next year.”
Having someone who believes in him this much can only be a positive thing for Calvert-Lewin, with the early indication being that the 22-year-old can push on under his mentor.
He will be hoping to continue in a similar manner for Ferguson when Everton face Manchester United on Sunday.
