da leao: Rangers fans haven’t had much to shout about recently as their silverware pursuit appears to have come to an end, with Celtic running away with the title and Aberdeen advancing in the Scottish Cup.
da dobrowin: However, Steven Gerrard will be desperate to finish strongly ahead of what could be a busy summer transfer window for the Light Blues, with a number of improvements required.
Interestingly, it appears as if they already have their eye on Lewis Holtby.ÂThe Daily RecordÂclaim sources in Germany have touted the potential for a deal, while Goal reporter Ronan Murphy supported the rumour on Twitter.
The former Tottenham Hotspur man now plays his football over in Germany for Hamburg, but his contract is set to expire in the summer transfer window which appears to have caught the attention of Rangers.
Sadly, Gerrard has already stated (as per The Scottish Sun) that he regrets not signing a creative playmaker, so it would make perfect sense for Mark Allen to secure the services of the 28-year-old who still has a lot to offer.
Alfredo Morelos has been excellent this season, scoring 29 goals and assisting 11, but sticking a creative midfielder like Holtby in behind him could take him up a level as he’d constantly thread balls through, which would provide him with more opportunities to boost his goals tally as he’s had to make a large amount of goals for himself this season.
It’s safe to say that the Light Blues would be delighted if the German joined in the summer as he’s exactly the kind of player they’ve been after, with the ability to create in the final third. He’s produced a respectable five goals and six assists in the current campaign and he has a lot of experience which could come in handy at Ibrox.
Rangers already have a number of young players at their disposal but it has been some of their more experienced heads that have impressed this season, including Scott Arfield and Allan McGregor.ÂSo, bringing Holtby to Glasgow would make a lot of sense, and the fact that he’s available on a free makes it even better.
