da betsul: It has been reported that Leeds United want to strengthen their wide positions this summer, and various links to players have given credence to this speculation.
The Whites have been linked with a plethora of left-wingers this summer, namely Brandon Barker, Jack Harrison and Callum O’Dowda.
The Yorkshire side have been linked to loan moves for the Man City duo while a move for the Bristol City man would be a permanent deal.
Harrison spent last season on loan at Elland Road, and Leeds fans aren’t keen for him to return. Barker, on the other hand, had a rather unsuccessful loan spell at Preston North End.
O’Dowda is the only player of the trio who has proven himself to be quality at this level, but a reported price tag of £10m may put Victor Orta off making a move for him at this time.
It is a real conundrum as to what Leeds should do when it comes to buying a new left-winger, but that hasn’t stopped Football FanCast’s writers weighing in with their verdicts.
Matt Dawson
“Personally I think Leeds could do with better quality next term. Harrison showed glimpses of the huge potential he has at times but he was also incredibly frustrating too. I don’t think Leeds fans will be losing too much sleep if they fail to bring any of them through the door. Bielsa should be looking elsewhere.”
Luke Glanville
“I think out of these three young wingers, Harrison has the greatest potential. And Leeds need to be looking to the future. If they had achieved promotion, they may have wanted to go for a more accomplished wide player, but they must toil to get out of the Sky Bet Championship once again next season. Harrison so very nearly helped fire Leeds back to the Premier League last campaign, so could easily help them go one better this time around. A deal to bring him in would be very smart, even if it’s only on loan.”
Billy Meyers
“I think Harrison would be a fine signing for Bielsa’s side, and he has certainly shown enough in 2018/19 to suggest that he can make considerable strides as a player at Leeds. The England Under-21 star should be a necessity this summer, especially if Jack Clarke leaves.”
