da supremo: According to The Sun, Arsenal have failed with a £15m offer for Celtic defender Kieran Tierney and have been told by the Hoops that the price is £25m.
What’s the word, then?
The Gunners are expected to be in the market for a new left-back this summer as Nacho Monreal could leave the Emirates Stadium on a free transfer on June 30 – when his contract is due to expire.
According to The Sun, the London club approached Celtic with an offer of £15m for Tierney but were told that the price is £25m.
The report has claimed that Arsenal will return with a fresh offer ‘within days’.
However, any deal for the left-back would significantly eat into the club’s summer transfer budget, which is minimal following their failure to qualify for the 2019-20 Champions League.
Head coach Unai Emery is said to have only £45m to spend on new signings, although that figure could increase with sales.
Is Tierney worth the investment?
At £25m, the deal is an absolute no brainer. Well, it would be if Arsenal had a decent transfer budget this summer.
However, as it stands, Tierney would take up well over half of Emery’s budget, leaving the Spaniard with limited funds to improve other areas of the team.
Tierney has only just turned 22 but has already made 170 appearances for Celtic – contributing eight goals and 37 assists in the process.

A 12-time Scotland international, the defender could well be Arsenal’s left-back for the next six or seven years if he arrives at the Emirates Stadium.
Tierney certainly has the capabilities of being a success in the Premier League and Celtic will surely eventually lose the talented full-back.
It makes a lot of sense for the Gunners to go after him this summer but the deal represents a risk at £25m, which is ironic when considering that is very much a bargain price for the talented Scot.
Emery is already under pressure from some fans following their Europa League final disappointment against Chelsea as well as finishing outside of the top four again, and he would be placing himself under more pressure by spending a large chunk of his budget on the Celtic man.
